![]() I’d like to know how many people have had this issue and what you did to get rid of that tapping noise or at least make it quieter. Right now I’m running Castro Synthetic Oil. He said his Tundra runs quieter on Valvoline synthetic oil. I talked to a customer service guy for Toyota about it and said using different oil might help too. Someone also said I could run Miracle Oil in the oil and engine and that it would help remove the varnish. I did add Lucas Oil for synthetic oil and it was noticeably quieter. I’m wondering if there are ways to reduce the noise. He said these engines tend to get a varnish build up on the fuel injection and valves but it nothing to be too concerned about. A Toyota Dealer mechanic told me that it’s fairly common for these engines with 30k+ miles. The one I’ve had the most concern about is a light tapping/ticking noise coming from the engine. But there are new sounds that I’m not accustomed too. So I replace her with a 2016 4Runner TRD Pro. But my last faithful steed has gone to pasture. I owned a nothing but Isuzu Troopers the last 25 years. They dont wear out often and need to be of the Quality commensurate with the engineering in that Engine…which is to say…High Quality.I’m a new Toyota owner. Replacing the plugs probably wont hurt you either…when were they last replaced? Use the OEM plug as well…almost surely some form of Bosch Platinum…or other high quality plug…Do not skimp on the type of Spark Plug. Please Note that the VW Crafter (2E/2F) is based on the very similar Mercedes Sprinter. If NO codes…you need to see if you have anything in the plug well that would short the coil to ground. We tried another idle regeneration but this wouldnt work. If you do have an engine code…it will point to the offending plug/coil combo…after that…just replace whatever one is misfiring. DAS says the car has no codes, everything looks great but after the engine is warm I cannot duplicate the problem. In the morning when I start the vehicle up, the idle surges about 500-600 RPM above idle for about 45sec-1min and then finally goes away. Id check for codes and if there are none…pull a few coils and make sure there is no oil in the plug well…or any other liquid. I've got a 2006 203 C230 with the 112 engine. ![]() ![]() If one of the coils is failing…you should throw a code, but I have seen many engines NOT throw a code when one of the coils shorts to ground (usually from oil in the plug well from a leaking valve cover gasket) When they short to ground you dont get a code bec technically the coil is firing but that energy is going to ground instead of thru the plug. I believe your engine has coil over plug system…which means No distributor, no spark plug wires…Just coils…over plugs. I would replace the spark plugs and the offending coil. Windshield Wiper Engine Died (Blade got Stuck) - Check Engine Light ALWAYS on yet dealer says nothing is wrong. Problems: - My Clutch Fan Blew when I was out of Town. The shifter module will need to be programmed to match the VIN of your car. I bought a used 2000 C230 Kompressor last April. If you have a defective shifter, in most models years 2000 and newer (with a few exceptions), you need a shifter model which is virgin or new. Sounds like one of your ignition coils is beginning to die. DubzBenz Discussion starter Mar 19, 2008. ![]()
